50 years ago this year, the Cross Cancer Institute opened to care for our community and save lives through research. In appreciation for everything they do we want to Show the Love back through this community fundraiser.

The Cross Cancer Institute has been Northern Alberta’s leader in innovative cancer research, prevention, treatment, and care since 1968.

Last year, more than 21,700 patients received treatment at the Institute. For many facing cancer, and their families, the Cross Cancer Institute will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

The 50th anniversary of the Cross Cancer Institute is a perfect launch pad to celebrate past accomplishments and inspire the community to rally behind the future facility expansion while continuing to support the ongoing delivery of world-class patient care.

With the support of generous donations from people like you, the Cross Cancer Institute can continue to redefine the future of cancer. It’s time to Show the Love!

Leading the Charge

This year, a group of community leaders established a committee to champion the Show the Love initiative through multiple community events focused on raising the awareness of and driving reinvestment in the Cross Cancer Institute.

I have never been to a hospital where you had so much personal attention. The doctors, nurses, and entire staff provide such incredible care. Our first meeting with our oncologist was so wonderful as was everyone we dealt with at the Cross Cancer Institute.

Dr. Peter Venner

Thirty years ago, we didn’t really have a hospice here in Edmonton. We now have a large number of hospice beds. This frees up room in the hospital to care for other cancer patients and ensures that palliative patients have the support they need to be comfortable and die with dignity. We have specialists providing this care-nurses, psychosocial support, pharmacists-in the community and in the hospice, and it’s now a specialty in medicine.

Bryan Mudryk, TSN Sportscaster

I just can’t say enough about the nurses and the doctors at the Cross Cancer Institute. They are phenomenal, phenomenal people. They see families at their absolute lowest.

The late Faisel Shariff

We are so blessed to have a world-class facility with state-of-the-art equipment and technology here in Edmonton. This is possible thanks to the generosity of Albertans, who give with such open hearts to this cause.

Nancy Luyckfassel

If I couldn’t be at home, I wanted to be at the Cross. They care more than any nursing staff I have ever come across in my life. The Cross provided me with safety and familiarity with my treatment and there was that connection piece-they knew everything about me and it was always a comfort to go back there.

We feel good about going to the Cross Cancer Institute as we know the care that is beyond these doors. We know the hope that is beyond those doors. It is bittersweet watching my husband go through this now, but we are thankful for the care we have in this province, in this country. We will journey together and with our wonderful community of supporters, we will get through it.

Show the Love was initiated by those touched by the Cross Cancer Institute—we are friends, family, co-workers, and survivors who want to celebrate, inspire, and encourage reinvestment.
